My Blocks

openSenseMap Block

I’m a big air quality nerd and I love recording and viewing weather data, so naturally I built a block so you can display your own openSenseMap weather data on your site.

I created a WP Rest API endpoint to abstract how the data form openSenseMap is fetched, and I’m also caching the data I get for 5 minutes so that not every page load will do a third-party fetch.

If you want to build your own sensor, this is a great guide. I have built quite a few and it’s really fun.

Interactive Recipe Block

I built this block to learn about the WP Interactivity API! I’m also a big fan of cooking and my kids love my waffles. It was really nice to be able to do interactive calculations without needing to rely on JS frameworks or other fancy things and I liked how intuitive working with the HTML attributes was.

I also feel like not enough recipe sites offer ingredient scaling!

Mikey’s Famous Waffles

Mikey's Famous Waffles
So delicious – a kids favourite.

It all started when I was yoddeling while riding a donkey on the cliffs of Mount Illimani in Bolivia. I heard the call of the waffles. It was a long deep howl that resonated with my ancient Incan ancestors. They wanted square, fluffy, delicious food, and they wanted it within 10-15 minutes, and sometimes with chocolate chips, maybe even a hint of cinnamon.

I began by planting the wheat seeds in the Spring, and then resting with some tea while I watched the soccer game. Laying in my hammock, I came up with this recipe that will surely be the last you will ever need. Enjoy.

Recipe Notes

With the eggs, you want to separate the whites and get them in a mixer till they become very fluffy and white. Then you will fold the egg whites into the batter.

You gotta fold the eggs.

Interactive Table Block

Who doesn’t like a good table? I thought it would be fun to add some interactivity to a core table block, which is where this block was born. To start, I created a table wrapper that has a search bar above a regular table. As you type in the search bar, the items below are filtered.

A few things I want to add in the future are column sorting, and highlighting results instead of only filtering out.
